Photo Essay: Delta Organic Farm

Delta Organic Farm located in Amherst Massachusetts is a bed and breakfast and Certified Organic Farm. Jim Pitts, the owner of the farm, grows a variety of organic produce: strawberries, carrots, asparagus, peas, rhubarb, garlic, sprouts, basil, tomatoes, squash, beets, onions, carrots, and fresh maple syrup to name a few. Pitts explained that organic food is healthful, benefiting our overall health.

The produce can be purchased in the local section at Stop and Shop, at Whole Foods, and the Amherst Farmers Market. Pitts says that “no two farms are alike, there’s so much diversity.” He explains how nation wide food systems make it so that we don’t have a relationship with the people who make our food, and that people don’t have to think about where their food comes from. With local food systems you can have a relationship with your food providers.
