Editor Application

Editor Application

The Amherst Wire is an online news magazine created and run by students at the University of Massachusetts, with a community-driven approach to covering national and global stories from a local angle. Editors gain valuable hands-on experience from working in a multimedia newsroom, a place that provides practical knowledge and training in new media tools generally not found in traditional print newsrooms or journalism classes.

Editors function as both mentors and mentees in the organization, teaching workshops on their respective areas of expertise to staff and community members while learning new skills from their peers throughout the semester.

As an editor, you may receive 2 independent study credits per semester from the UMass Journalism department and must commit a minimum of 6 hours of work each week (1 hour in editor/staff meetings, 2 hours in the newsroom, and 3 hours independently gathering, producing and editing content).
