Written in 1972, Title IX states that “no person in the United States shall on the basis of sex, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” The most obvious application of this applies to men’s and women’s athletics at both the high school and college level, however it also works to create equality among other organizations, such as honors fraternities.
